Caruso<\/a>, I decided to take a look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/movie\/the-salton-sea\/id372929736?uo=4&amp;at=11l66h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">iTunes HD version<\/a> after receiving a e-mail request to do a review. I hadn&#8217;t actually seen it before I decided to review it here but in summary: despite a promising trailer, I found the film itself is a bit of a muddle: mixing clashing tones and textures, as well as using both a voice-over and flashback as framing mechanisms. It&#8217;s all a bit much.<\/p>\n<p>Critically, the film was about equally bashed and praised. And though it didn&#8217;t do much box office (less than a million on a budget of eighteen), though that didn&#8217;t seem to hurt D.J. Curuso&#8217;s career one little bit.<\/p>\n<h2>The Salton Sea iTunes HD Review<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_1032\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/notonbluray.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/The-Salton-Sea-2-tweakers.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1032\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1032\" src=\"http:\/\/notonbluray.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/The-Salton-Sea-2-tweakers-300x169.png\" alt=\"Tweakers in full flow.\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/notonbluray.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/The-Salton-Sea-2-tweakers-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/notonbluray.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/The-Salton-Sea-2-tweakers-1024x577.png 1024w, https:\/\/notonbluray.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/The-Salton-Sea-2-tweakers-624x351.png 624w, https:\/\/notonbluray.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/The-Salton-Sea-2-tweakers.png 1908w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1032\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tweakers in full flow.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Salton Sea iTunes 1080p HD download clocks in at 4.3 GB.\u00a0The aspect ratio is approximately 1.77:1 and\u00a0has both English Stereo AAC and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio tracks.<\/p>\n<p>Video bitrate is at an average 5.1 Mbps, which is fairly standard for iTunes, with peak bitrate of around 12Mbps. Video quality is fair to poor: There are noticable artifacts present on several occasions (notable the first fade-in), and I suspect the 1080p version has been upscaled from 720p due to jaggies on the titles and credits text. If you are looking for early noughties neo-noir that you haven&#8217;t seen I&#8217;d recommend &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/movie\/the-way-of-the-gun\/id251191217?uo=4&amp;at=11l66h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Way of the Gun<\/a>&#8216;, &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/movie\/the-limey\/id253542134?uo=4&amp;at=11l66h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Limey<\/a>&#8216; or &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/movie\/the-man-who-wasnt-there\/id294438937?uo=4&amp;at=11l66h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Man Who Wasn&#8217;t There<\/a>&#8216; and\u00a0perhaps &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/movie\/requiem-for-dream-directors\/id281307971?uo=4&amp;at=11l66h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Requiem for a Dream<\/a>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Salton Sea is a 2002 neo-noir thriller starring Val Kilmer and direct by D.J.
