Automata is a science-fiction thriller starring Antonio Banderas, available on iTunes in HD right now, and since it’s not available on Blu-ray yet, I thought I’d give it a review. Directed by Gabe Ibáñez, Automata is based on a script he co-wrote with Igor Legarreta and Javier Sánchez Donate. Made on a shoe-string 15 million dollar budget, Automata tells the story of beaten-down insurance agent Jacq’s (Antonio Banderas) quest to explain-away why his companies robots have been breaching their prime directive not to self-modify. Interestingly the film has been given an almost parallel theatrical and digital release on iTunes, which I always appreciate, since it’s increasingly difficult to get to the theater.

The Andromeda Strain – iTunes HD Review
1971s adaptation of Michael Criterion’s novel, The Andromeda Strain is a rare combination of intelligent science fiction, 1960s politics and nerve jangling tension. The film is not available on Blu-ray yet, so I decided to do a quick review of the iTunes 1080p HD edition.
The Love Bug – Herbie – iTunes HD Review
The Love Bug is the first of the five Herbie films. A typical 1960s Disney live-action movie written by Bill Walsh and Don DaGradi, and directed by DIsney regular Robert Stevenson. The car really is the star in this movie and the skills of acting talent are confined to doing double-takes. Since the film isn’t available on Blu-ray yet, I thought I’d have a closer look at the iTunes HD version.
